RWI

We follow the RWI program at Lakeside.  The children begin with learning the speed sounds, building up quick recall of each sound.  They then learn to blend the words together to read and segment to spell.   Once the children have secured this they move on to reading 'Ditty's' which are simple sentences, progressing onto Red Ditty books.  At this point the children begin to apply these skills to writing in their Red Ditty Book.  The children will then continue to move through the scheme, with assessments taking place every 6 weeks, unless we feel they are ready to move on sooner.  More information on this can be found on the website under the 'Parents' section - Read, Write, Inc.
